BLUE PORTS at the MEDPorts seminar “The Role of Ports in Mediterranean Islands Economic Growth” in Heraklion, 20 September 2024

On September 20, 2024, the Renewable & Sustainable Energy Laboratory of the Technical University of Crete (ReSEL@TUC) participated as speaker in the international seminar “The Role of Ports in Mediterranean Islands Economic Growth,” organized by the MEDports Association and hosted by the Heraklion Port Authority in collaboration with the Hellenic Ports Association.

ReSEL@TUC was invited to present the BLUE PORTS Training and Certification Scheme, an enabler for developing a qualified workforce for greener services in island ports.

The seminar addressed key topics such as port infrastructure resilience, the green transition, and the importance of sustainable economic growth for Mediterranean islands, drawing insights from leading experts and stakeholders. High-level speakers and participants included Greece’s Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Mr Stefanos Gikas, President of MEDPorts Assocation Mr Pino Musolino and Secretary General Mr Jordi Torrent, President of Med Cruise Mrs Theodora Riga, executives and managers of Mediterranean Ports, representatives of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), the International Association of Ports and Harbors and the World Port Sustainability Program and academics from Mediterranean and MENA countries.
