2nd Georgian NTC Consultation Meeting Successfully Held in Batumi, March 2025.

On March 10, 2025, the Georgian BLUE PORTS National Technical Committee (NTC) held its second consultation meeting in Batumi, further strengthening the collaborative efforts to enhance green skills and certification in the Georgian port sector. The meeting was organized by the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia (MTA) in partnership with key national stakeholders.

Building upon the outcomes of the first consultation meeting, this session focused on co-developing the requirements of the BLUE PORTS Certification Scheme and refining the proposed Training Methodology and Syllabus to align with the specific needs of the Georgian port sector. The meeting was officially opened by Khatuna Mamulashvili, BLUE PORTS Project Manager, MTA, and Nino Baghdavadze, Head of the International Relations Department, MTA, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of developing a standardized, high-quality training and certification framework to support Georgia’s maritime workforce.

Targeted presentations were delivered by MTA representatives, followed by discussion around the certification scheme scope, candidate profiles, and necessary course modifications. The meeting featured two interactive exercises focusing on the training content, course duration, training modules, and job-related competencies, allowing for in-depth discussions of two dedicated groups, each working on the management-level professionals and operational staff sub-schemes.

The Georgian NTC members reaffirmed the value of the BLUE PORTS Certification Scheme in accelerating the green transition of ports by enhancing workforce skills and aligning training programs with international best practices. Their insights, along with conclusions drawn from NTC meetings in Greece, Italy, and Spain, will contribute to the final formation of the certification framework and its mutual recognition across participating countries.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to contribute in the finalization of the certification scheme in the next NTC meeting and ensuring that Georgian port professionals are well-equipped to navigate the evolving maritime landscape.
