Spain Advances Green Transition in Ports with BLUE PORTS Project, March 2025

The second Spanish National Technical Committee (NTC) meeting for the BLUE PORTS project took place in Valencia on March 13, 2025, bringing together experts and industry leaders to refine training programs for port professionals. The initiative, part of the European Green Deal, aims to enhance skills in the port sector to support a greener and more sustainable maritime industry. Participants analysed survey results from the Port Community of Valencia and collaborated on the final structure of the training course focused on energy transition in port logistics.

Key discussions revolved around the course content, admission requirements, and certification criteria. The committee proposed some changes on the course titles that better align with industry expectations, emphasizing management skills for executives and technical expertise for operational staff. The Spanish NTC proposed to include on the training programme a new sub-module that deals with organizational change management in the face of the energy transition.

The meeting marked a significant milestone in the project’s progress, ensuring that training programmes align with industry needs and EU sustainability goals. The next steps will involve finalizing course structures, refining teaching methodologies, and implementing the new training and certification framework. BLUE PORTS continues to foster innovation and professional development, equipping port personnel with the skills necessary for a greener future.
